Kigali International Airport (also known as Kanombe Airport) is the only international airport in Rwanda. Several daily flights connect Kigali with other capitals of the sub-region and intercontinental flights allow passenger traffic between Europe, Middle East and other continents, directly or with a connection.

VISA VISA INFORMATION

From 1st Jan 2018, Nationals of all countries receive visas on arrival at Kigali International Airport and all land borders. Citizens of countries members to the following international organizations; African Union, Commonwealth, and La Francophonie get visas upon arrival and are waived visa fees for a visit of 30 days.

A citizen of East African Community Member States shall be issued a pass/entry visa free of charge upon arrival to stay for a period of six months.

The following countries to be granted 90 days valid visa free of charge upon arrival: Angola, Benin, Central African Republic, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, The Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, Ghana, Guinea, Indonesia, Haiti, Mauritius, Philippines, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Sao Tome and Principe, Singapore, and the state of Qatar.

HEALTH INFORMATION

Rwanda is a malaria endemic country, and all its 30 districts are at risk of malaria infection. Travelers from low malaria endemic or malaria free countries are encouraged to use available malaria prevention measures. The Rwandan Ministry of Health requires all travellers coming from countries where yellow fever is endemic to produce proof of vaccination at border posts. Delegates should also be aware of the risks related to Marburg virus and Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox). MEDICAL INSURANCE

The Host Country does not cover travel insurance and medical insurance for conference attendees. If you are on medication, please carry sufficient supplies for the duration of your stay.

Currency

The unit of currency is the Rwandan Franc (RWF). Exchange rates are subject to fluctuation. Central bank rates can be found on the National Bank of Rwanda.

Climate

The month of October is the rainy season in Rwanda. The average temperature in Kigali in October, for a typical day, ranges from a high of 76°F (25°C) to a low of 59°F (18°C). Some would describe it as pleasantly warm, humid but cool.

The time in Rwanda is GMT+2. The time zone is Central African Time (CAT).

Plastic Bags

Rwanda is one of the few countries in the world that has banned the use of plastic bags. It is illegal to bring plastic bags into the country. Passengers Entering with plastic bags will have them confiscated at the airport.

Electric Supply

The electricity supply in Rwanda is 220/240V AC. You are advised to bring your own round, two-prong adapter , and transformer for 110V AC . For more information click here

Telecommunications

The two Rwandan mobile telecommunication service providers available are MTN and Airtel. Mobile telephone service providers also provide a gateway to the Internet using GPRS, 3G, and 4G. Cell phone SIM cards are widely available.

Business and shopping hours

Public offices open from 09:00 to 17:00, while businesses open from 09:00 to 22:00, Monday to Friday. Weekend business hours range between 09:00 and 22:00.
